What is PTM?
Portraits that Move is a team of professional, award-winning filmmakers who create documentary-quality videos for families. With a focus on joy, we preserve specific moments of family lives, documenting how your children, and your families, change and grow.
Each of our short videos reflects the personality and spirit of our subjects with trust and reverence. The result is a one-of-a-kind portrait of your life that is moving, in all senses of the word.
What is the process for creating a moving portrait?
First, a member of the Portraits that Move team will contact you to conduct a short phone interview and consultation to learn more about your family and your children.
For our Signature Portrait video, we will then schedule the film shoot. For the filming, we come to your home (or another location of your choosing). Count on three to four hours for the filming session and a team of two people. During that time, we observe your child doing the things they love to do — playing, reading, laughing, and being themselves. We ask them to tell us about who they are, their likes and dislikes, their feelings, their dreams and their family.
Once our filmmaking team completes the shoot, we work with our editor to create your custom Portraits that Move film.
When your film is completed, we send you the password-protected final product electronically and you are able to download it on as many devices as you wish.
Can I be there while my child is being filmed?
Yes, of course! We love it when parents participate. The main objective during a Portraits that Move shoot is that your child is comfortable and relaxed, and many times, children prefer to have their parents present during the film shoot.
WILL I BE IN THE VIDEO?
While it’s not necessary for parents to be on camera, we find that including images of the family in the video can help to create a more holistic portrait, so we are happy to shoot images of you if you feel comfortable with us doing so.
I have more than one child: Can I have them all in the video?
Yes! We love creating videos with siblings.
What makes PORTRAITS THAT MOVE different from home movies or iPhone videos?
The one-of-a-kind documentaries made by Portraits that Move are different from home movies in several ways. Our team is comprised of professional award-winning filmmakers who have spent their careers honing their craft. They bring a level of talent and expertise that elevates the end product. Secondly, we offer a production value that is the highest quality — and not easily reproduced in a spur-of-the-moment click of an iPhone.
We create a professional, documentary-quality film, complete with music, that celebrates your child’s everyday, slice-of-life perspective to give you a record of who they are in this very moment.
